Chapter 13 - Busted (1)

As Ronnie and Caroline entered the dining hall they immediately knew something was up.

Every time someone entered the hall the whole room would turn around and go quiet. Then as if on cue each group went back to their hushed conversation.

It didn’t take long for the news to get to them.

“So what do you think happened?” a tall handsome upperclassman was asking one of the screachball players.

“No idea, all I know, is her mom had asked the headmistress to give her a message, when she went to find her this morning she wasn’t there, and what’s weirder, her roommate was under a sleeping spell.”

“Who’s that?” Ronnie asked.

The two boys turned around a little startled by the question, then startled again by the green eyes that caught their gaze. “Oh, um… what was her name?” He turned to his friend who just shrugged his shoulders. “Shoot I don’t remember, it was Stacy, or Susan, something that started with an S.”

“Sara” Ronnie stated more than asked.

“Yeah, that was it, do you know her?”

Caroline answered for her “Yeah, she’s in our class.”

Ronnie didn’t say another word until she found Doug and Steve. Caroline was still with her as they sat down. Although as soon as she saw Steve she went pink and a huge grin crossed her lips. He just smiled naively.

“So did you hear?” Ronnie asked.

“Yeah” Steve and Doug answered in unison.
“Do you think…” Steve stopped himself, glancing at Caroline. “Do you think they are ok?”

Doug smiled “I think they are just really lost. If you don’t know your way around… it’s easy to get lost.”

Just then Professor Murine walked into the room, and took a quick look around. Doug knew immediately she was looking for him. He stood up and got her attention. She quickly walked over as he finished his breakfast.

“So I am sure you heard.” Her eyes paused on each of them in turn.

“Yes ma’am.” Doug answered.

“Do you know where they are?” The professor asked.

“No, ma’am. But I would be happy to help look.” Doug answered.

“Where would you start?” She asked pointedly.

He paused as all eyes fell on him.

“Professor,” Ronnie interrupted “do you know if she’s the only one missing?” Now all eyes were on her, and professor Murine’s had doubled in size.

“No. Why?” A bit of panic had crept into her voice. It hadn’t occurred to her that more than one student would be missing.

Doug, Steve, and Caroline were all looking at her intently. “Well I had heard Sara mention visiting the pond at night to Jason. I was just wondering if maybe he would know where she is. They are really good friends.”

“Oh Ronnie, that’s a great point, I will have someone look for him right away. In the mean time, Doug we need you to start searching for her… Where ever you think would be a good place to start.” With a flurry or robes she rushed off to see if she could find Jason.
