Behind the door there was a long corridor with what seemed to be as many rooms as in the main house. Sara walked this corridor with a little less confidence. Many of the rooms were secured with ancient devices that looked as though they would maim anyone who came within reach. The walls seemed to ooze fear with painting and diagrams of mutilated bodies and fierce looking creatures ready to attack or were already in the process of ripping their victims to shreds. As they passed one room, a foul liquid with a horrific odor seeped out from under the door, whereas a low soulful groan emanated from deep within another.
In a voice barely audible Jason asked “So what are we looking for?” Sara shot him a look that affirmed his dreadful feeling that something evil was in this place. Even Sara spoke in a hushed tone; there was something disconcerting about her mother’s private chambers.
“Just follow me and be quiet.” They reached the very end of the corridor where a huge black door stood in their way. She took a deep breath and in one swift movement took Jason by the wrist and stepped right through the door. There was a quick searing pain, as though they were being split into tiny pieces. Once on the other side they felt a strange tingling sensation pulsing through their bodies.
“Holy Cow! Sara, what was that! Why didn’t you tell me?” He said, visibly shaken.
“Believe me, it’s better if you don’t know what’s coming.” She said.
Compared to the rest of the dark corridor this room glowed. Each outside wall was made of glass, even the ceiling was a magnificent dome of glass, it was as though they were standing outside.
“Wow!” Jason squinted, his eyes trying to adjust to the bright sunlight. “Wait a minute… where are we?” He slowly walked toward one of the walls. “Those are mountains…” his voice tailed off as he tried to comprehend what he was seeing. “How can there be mountains in Ohio?”
Sara actually smiled “We’re not in Ohio, ignoramus.” she said with a smirk. “We’re just outside of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.” She walked up to one of the many glass doors that lead outside. As she opened it the clear, clean mountain air rushed in. She held the door open for Jason as he walked out.
“This is amazing Sara,” he glanced over his shoulder and was terrified to see no Sara, in fact nothing at all other than a huge stone wall behind him. “Sara? Where are you?” there was no reply. “Sara, this isn’t funny.” He tried to find the door but there was nothing but air and solid stone. After a few minutes he started to get worried. Jason knew that Sara wasn’t a real friend and he was starting to think that she would probably find it really funny to leave him there to die. “Damn it Sara, where are you?” He could hear his voice breaking with fear as his heart was beginning to race, and his hands started to sweat.
“Don’t cry, I’m right here,” she appeared out of thin air and was standing in front of him.
“Shit, don’t do that to me.” Jason was more upset by his cowardly reaction then by her sick prank.
“The room’s enchanted, no one can see it unless they know what they looking for. Right there,” she pointed to a pink stone “is the corner of the door, follow it up.” She pointed a straight line up from the stone, and all of a sudden the room became as clear as day. “As long as you know what you are looking for you can always find it.”
All Jason could do was nod.
“Don’t tell me you are going to sulk the rest of the day. I was just playing.” Her tone made him feel even more embarrassed about his reaction.
“No, let’s just get what you needed and get out of here.” Jason said coldly.
“I got it already while you were playing explorer.” She chuckled as they headed back into the glass room.
