Chapter 2 - First Day of School (4)

"Ronnie! Get over here!" the woman hollered in a playful sort of way. "I swear that child could make friends in an empty room.

Ronnie was talking to some boys under an ancient tree that seemed to be trying to open her backpack with its twiggy branches. She turned to wave at her mom as she pulled her bag off her shoulder and drew out a handful of cookies that the tree quickly snatched up - to everyone’s amusement.

"She takes after you love bug." the man laughed at his wife. Like her daughter she too had long dark hair, deep rich skin and the unique high cheekbones of a Native American. He grabbed her hand, and spun her towards him to catch a kiss.

"Oh my gosh! Get a room you two!” The young girl groaned as she caught up with her parents. “I swear to Gitche-Manitou it's like being raised by a couple of teenagers!"

"Sorry sweetheart we'll try to be more elderly for you," her mom smiled warmly as they came to the large wooden doors. "Are you ready to be on your own?"

Ronnie laughed. "Yeah sure, if you don't count having two older brothers who think they’re my keepers living in the same building with me. I was more on my own at home!" As if on cue, two boys swung the door open. "See mŏmah, Raven and Coyote at your service."

The taller of the two boys stood at attention. "Don't worry mŏmah, we will take good care of our sweet darling little sister."

"Definitely! We will be sure to make her life as easy and carefree as possible." The second boy chimed in, and they both quickly doubled over laughing.

Their mom smiled and dismissed the boys with a shake of her head "Boys, please go help your father unload the car."

"Yes mŏmah." With a playful bow the two boys took off back down the path.

As Steve climbed out of the car, a long dark sedan pulled up to the front of the same dormitory. A man jumped out before the car came to a complete stop. He quickly opened the back door. A tall handsome boy stepped out.

“Get my things, Tyler” his eyes are cold for someone so young.

“Yes, Master Blake.”

The man carefully handled three large bags as the boy started toward the building. Tyler respectfully passed the boy and rushed to open the large wooden doors, holding them open for Steve and his mom before he rushed down the hall. As Steve walked by he glanced in to see a lavishly decorated room. There was a tall fireplace on one wall and a massive hand-carved armoire on the other, while a four-poster bed with deep blue curtains sat in a corner. It was unlike any other dorm room on campus.
Blake quickly scanned the room indifferently.

“Shall I put your belongings away Master Blake?”

“No. You are dismissed,” he said.

It was obvious the man did not need to be told twice as he quickly backed out the door and headed to the waiting car.

As the door quietly swung shut Steve glanced one last time into the splendid room. To his surprise a tiny little man wearing a sapphire blue cape and round spectacles was standing in the shadows looking directly at him.
